Injuried from drumming and down and out I bought the paperback version. This book saved me. Thank you John Lamb! The info in this book is vital for playing correctly and how the body and drumset should be positioned to prevent injury. My knee issues have been on going for 15 years. I played yesterday pain free! Get this book even if you are not injured because there might be something you can fine tune before you get injured.Update: I slipped back into bad form and injured myself again. It is key to remember when playing heel up bass drum that the thigh muscles are not lifting the leg and there is no lifting from the hip at all. This got me in trouble. All the lifting happens from the ankle and calf. The front of the foot sits on the sweet spot of the pedal then you lift your foot never taking the front of the foot off the pedal using only your calf. Your knee, thigh, and hips should be relaxed. Then you drop your leg using gravity and the weight of the leg to push the pedal down. I wish it would have said all of this in the book. Still a great read and worth the investment. I hope this helps you.

I couldn't believed that this book even exists so I bought as soon as I saw it and glad that I did. I had many doubts in terms of the ergonomics of the drum set and couldn't find anyone that could explain to me how to position the drum set in a way that seems natural. Many drummers would tell me different ideas but when I bought this book I finally got the answers I was looking for. I applied some of the recommendations and my playing improved greatly and I rarely feel any type of pain ( and I am a guy that had severe back problems for years, so I have to takes more care of myself when drumming). Thank you John Lamb for this amazing book. Recommend it to every drummer I know.

This book would benefit drummers at any level of playing, and age (I'd guess 12 year olds is the youngest who could understand the significance). The author aims to make the reader aware of their movements playing drums, which could lead to healthier and therefore better playing. I'd highly recommend this to any drummer, and especially every drum teacher. After reading, I have been thinking about my body differently, which has led me to more efficient playing. In some cases I've corrected technique issues that will hopefully prevent injuries, but also helped me understand reasoning into why my teachers taught me certain techniques I've been using without even thinking about it.

Holy s***. I expected to get some knowledge from this book but I did not expect so much! Im at 25% read and I just HAD to write this review. It shows in detail how the joints, bones, and muscles both work and move. It helps you understand you body better, and a very big part of this knowledge can be applied to everyday life. It also goes over some physiological and psychological aspects of the body, incluiding the way thoughts, feelings, and posture affect performance. It explains this in detail without bombarding you with filler information. Man. Seriously just do yourself a favor and buy this book. It will make you play better, and avoid injury (even if you feel fine right now, you probably have some bad habits that will develop into repetitive strain injuries over the years).

Fantastic book for drummers like me who like to understand how my body works when drumming. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 only because the book did let me down in that it seemed to give the anatomical details but did not consistently describe how to optimize drumming technique in light of those details.

Excellent book. It gives the drummer a sound understanding of his/her body and the mechanics of how and why we move.

The amount of information in this book paired with how accessible it is; becomes a well of information you can keep coming back to. I recommend this book to anyone who loves drumming; especially those like myself who have been drumming viciously and incorrectly for over 20 years and you need to re learn an approach.

I wish I find immediately when I started drumming. It explains very clearly good posture, what makes good movements and how to be efficient in the drums.
