I think this was a counterfeit book. Looked like bound Xerox copies of pages from a book. Pictures were very poor quality -and black and white. Who wants black and white pictures of food?! Top it off the recipes in the index were not even alphabetized correctly within each letter. Returning it and alerting the publisher.

We've had our sous vide cooker for about a month and I love it. Meat cookery in sous vide is a game changer. It's everything I hoped it would be and more. But most of the current recipes I've found are basic and not very creative. This book is entirely different.There is a wide range of styles - I can't wait to try most everything. Sous vide makes these things possible because temperature control is no longer a matter of hyper-vigilance, and cooking in stages produces better end results. For example, the fish AND the potatoes in the fish and chips are cooked sous vide (separately) prior to frying. Doing this reduces the moisture content of the ingredients so the fish doesn't steam up the batter, clings better and fries up crisp and delicious. The potatoes have that Belgian perfection of twice frying but you eliminate one of the frying steps. I've done a variation of this by precooking chicken (not sous vide, but I'll try it next time) before frying it, you cook the coating, not the chicken, so you don't have to mess with ensuring the chicken is actually cooked before the crunchy exterior is burnt.The instructions are clear and the photos are gorgeous. I love this book!

This is a great sous vide cookbook, and the author's passion is obvious. It have 500+ recipes, is a well thought out introduction to all the possibilities of sous vide cooking - and exposes you to everything you can apply the technique to. The explanations ahead of each section are helpful and the book builds on the recipes so you can see why for those it makes sense to cook sous vide as opposed to standard methods, and I felt it gave me a good understanding of what sous vide makes sense to use for the most (very long time slow cooking or low-temperature cooking) and how to modify other standard recipes to take advantages of the method. The included recipes are not complicated (the beauty of sous vide itself is that it makes cooking most ingredients very straight forward) - the hardest parts of any of them will be the steps you need to do away from the sous vide part. The directions are very thorough and easy to follow and there is a lot of detail on how to do most of the work ahead of time. There is also good explanation as to why you use a certain temperature and how changing times and temperatures affects the cooking process. I have cooked a fair number of the proteins in the book, some of the veggies, eggs and also attempted the cocktails and desserts - and everything has come out excellent. While i like that it is a somewhat ambitious cookbook that tries to challenge a more experienced cook as well, the explanations are excellent so if you have any interest in cooking and are able to follow a recipe this should not be too hard to follow.

lots of obvious editing errors. the recipes were not bad, but not impressed by the book. Several recipes were repeated. Not a great effort.

First off, I like the cover but not the look of the inside with black and white pictures.I have only skimmed the book so far and I have found ingredients ommited from the list but appearing in the steps. Also, some of the wording can be hard to follow especially considering that the actual step by step part of the recipes is very brief.Some of the recipes look awesome, and I can’t wait to try some.

There are about 550 incredible recipes. This is really very convenient, because I do not need to think what dish to cook. Recipes contain simple ingredients, it will not be difficult to follow the instructions. It is good that there is information about the content of calories, sugar, carbohydrates, and so on in each recipe. chocolate pudding and chicken I cooked simply. I like this Sous Vide cookbook.

The dark new world is a standout among the many good post apocalypse series. These books provide exposure to many real world skills anyone can use. The story is excellent, characters well developed and world building is fantastic. This book delivers on all the promises made by the first 8.

I've followed this series from the beginning, and am thoroughly content with this ending! Good storytelling, great character and plot development...I thoroughly enjoyed the ride.

Articulately written and full of excitement. I found this book entertaining, as well as informative.

Great ending to a good book! Took a while to get reinvolved with the characters. Could of used some basic recaps from the previous books on each of the main characters but again a great ending to a great story!

Unless there is some surprise coming, the nine-installment series has ended, and all loose ends have been tied together. The characters are believable, and the story doesn't get boring. The last installment was perhaps spread out over too many venues, with all of the "good" characters surviving seemingly endless life-or-death situations by means that were often fantastic. However, it's still recommended for fans of the series, as it ties up all the loose ends.Those who have not read any of the books are advised to start with Book 1 and work their way through. Both EMP-Apocalypse fans and those new to the genre will enjoy the series. Kindle Unlimited subscribers can read all nine books for free (the authors still get paid by Amazon).

The 2 reviews for this particular product are mixed. One reviewer is clearly in love with the quality of the recording and talents of the singers and the other says that this La Traviata is not his first choice. When you have Beverly Sills as an opera heroine, that should always be your first choice, unless you try the rest and finally decide to hear the best. This is without argument the best La Traviata recording and there are so many reasons for this conclusion. First of all, Black Dog Opera Library series has great performances of opera captured on quality sound and full of illustrated pages profiling the life of the composer and historic background of the opera, as well as a bio on the singers. The libretto is precise and embellished with notes on key moments (arias, ensembles, etc) of the opera.Beverly Sills (Violetta) has sung the role 54 times in the course of 63 days. She is equally as powerful an actress as she is a singer, at paar with her contemporary of the 60's, Maria Callas. In this recording (1971) her voice is still a fine instrument, and she conveys a broad range of artistic value. In the first act, the party act in which she first meets Alfredo (Nicolai Gedda in excellent vocal character), she is bubbly and appropriately festive (she even laughs) and provides us with an operetta-like charm. Her tour de force scene comes at the end of the first act, from the melodious way she sings "A Fors E Lui" to the coloratura showpiece, "Sempre Libera", which she ends with an E flat over a high C. In her Act 2 duet with Germont (apty sung by Rolando Panerai) she moves us with her suffering pathos in her lines "Ditte A La Giovine", "Morro La Mia Memoria" and her farewell to Alfredo "Amami Alfredo". In the confrontation scene where she belts out a tense "Invitato A Qui Seguirmi", and the ensuing "Alfredo, Alfredo, di questo core" are all fine moments for Beverly Sills, her voice even rising above the chorus ensemble at the end. Her final scenes, from "Addio Del Passato" to the last breath she takes, is remarkable.This recording is just one of two recordings with the same group- the John Alldys Choir, Aldo Ceccato conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the singers- Beverly Sills, Nicolai Gedda and Rolando Panerai. Either of these two recordings are great introduction to opera for novices and the art of Beverly Sills. Look no further if you want a great recording of the most intimate and romantic opera that Verdi ever composed. It is a story of love, a portrait of a woman who gives up her glamorous Parisian lifestyle as a courtesan and sacrifices even her own happiness for the man she loves. It is safe to say that this is the most romantic opera, full of rich melody and great acting. At the hands of the right performers, it's a memorable experience.

Eventhough it sounds like a delusion or an exaggeration, I am very sincere when I praise this Black Dog Opera Library recording of La Traviata as the greatest recording of them all. Contrary to what the reviewer said of the performers (Sills and Gedda being past their prime and their voices shrill and terrible sounding which is inaccurate) this is the perfect version and the one all opera fans and Verdi lovers should have. The Black Dog Opera Library series always contain great recordings and the pages are illustrated with dozens of operatic imagery and as always, there is information on the history of the composer and the opera's performance. Beverly Sills and Nicolai Gedda (although they are older, but the focus should always be the voice and not the age of the singers) provide a lush, romantic vocal beauty to the roles of opera's greatest lovers, Violetta and Alfredo. Beverly Sills is the ultimate diva of coloratura, dramatic and bel canto roles and her Violetta has excellence and elegance that is unsurpassed, Gedda's Alfredo is genteel, passionate and driven, while the talents of Rolando Panerai (Giorgio Germont) is a superb baritone with "fatherly" compassion, and the conductor Aldo Ceccato orchestrates a precise, beautiful score that is effective in every scene. I highly recommend you purchase this recording and you will not regret it. The only flaws of the book is that it is disorganized in the libretto, but with that overlooked, what counts is the fine caliber of the performance. Other Blac Dog Opera Library recordings you should take a look at is Georges Bizet's Carmen and Mozart's The Magic Flute, both recordings being the best of the recordings for those operas. Enjoy La Traviata, with its tragic and touching love story of a dying courtesan who gives up everything for the love of one great man. The music is definately Verdian, heart-rendering, intimate, soulful, elegant and festive, and tremendously moving in the final scenes. Five Stars Well Deserved.

not the best self-help tool for learning strategies or reviewing math concepts since there are no explanations given for the correct answers. I coach people for this test and if you are looking for self-help materials, I would recommend supplementing this volume with the Kaplan Verbal Workbook and/or Kaplan Math Workbook and/or the Princeton Review Math Workout. If you are weak in math,I'd advise both of the math volumes since they attack the material from different angles. When you have used these to get yourself test ready, use the 10 Real SATS book to practice actual tests (whose Math sections are somewhat easier than these practice books, and whose verbal sections are somewhat harder.) Good luck!

I bought my 10 real book, because it was recommedned to me at an SAT workshop. I will never regret spending the money. Since it gives you 10 real, used before SAT's it is most helpful to the first time test taker to learn the format, mainly the fact that you shouldn't answer every question on the SAT. I took the November 2000 test, and I actually saw an analogy question I had seen before in my 10 Real book. (This is because all SAT questions are recycled). The book also contains strategies. If nothing else, give your friends and family a test you have already practiced with, and let them give it a try to see how smart they are. It will make you feel better. I highly recommend this book to anyone, especially a first time tester with at least 2-3 weeks for practice. I have used most of the other SAT prep books, and this is king of the hill, no need buying the others. Good Luck!

I didn't realize that this book is over a decade old! The format of the math sections is outdated, as well as the number of questions in these sections.Although we did practice with some of the math and critical reading questions, I think the book is much too old to continue selling.

While the idea of ten real SATs is great, the first few chapters trying to help people improve their scores is a waste. The methods they use are horribly compared to the ones in Princeton Review's books. What it boils down to is this: if you need to improve your score, then get Princeton Review's Math and Verbal Workouts. If, instead, you just want to brush up and get comfortable with the test, then buy this. Take it from someone who has a best combined score of 1410.

Bought to help my 9th Grader get an early start and it did just that. Cheap enough to not care about writing on it and using for practice. Not perhaps the most current book but for general testing and mind exercises it is great.

This is not your traditional histrom. It is darker. It is angtsy. It is not about social climbing or being a wall flower, it is about a feminist botanist and a sexually submissive duke with a major guilt complex. There are so many tropes that get turned on their head, right down to the traditional (and a fan favorite) of the heroine getting a whole new wardrobe. In this case, the heroine prefers her work clothes! Poppy and Archer work, they work so hard, for their HEA. And at times, despite the angst and the dark subject matter, this is also a very funny book. No character is wasted. The details are rich. And the writing is superb. The word choice alone is stunning. This is a hard to put down kind of book.

I can't believe this was Ms Peckman's first novel. The Duke I Tempted was such a fun read. Much of the descriptive language written by new romance authors is forced and excessive. But this book flowed, effortlessly, from scene to scene. The dialogue was reflective of each characters' distinct personalities. I would alternate between reading it fast to see what else happened, and putting it down, so I wouldn't finish it too quickly.I only had 2 concerns with this book. While I loved Poppy and understood her personality, Archer was unreasonably nice. He should have been more hardened, angry, and more prickly with Poppy. He'd suffered and would have had a tougher shell. Secondly, there was a lot of conflict, but it kept being resolved. About 5 different times, I thought "Good, things have been resolved. Book will end." only to find there was still 40% to go, 30%, 22%, and each time another misunderstanding kept it going. Luckily, the writing was engaging enough, I was happy to keep reading. And the fact that Poppy wanted that lifestyle made it much hotter than I would have expected. I'd recommend it!

Dark, emotional, almost unrelentingly erotic -- this was a good read. When Archer, the Duke of Westmead, falls for Poppy, a horticulturalist with dreams of building an exotic plant empire, he falls for her and proposes, hoping to convince her (and himself) that it's just a marriage of convenience. After all, he needs an heir and Poppy needs capital for her business . . . and Archer doesn't want a marriage that will interfere with his need for pain and submission.That's right, a male with an interest in pain and submission. It's a relatively unexplored avenue for historical romance (at least, M/F historical romance) and Peckham does a remarkable job writing it, highlighting the physical and emotional elements of Archer's desires (as well as how they intrigue and excite Poppy). Do I wish it wasn't rooted in trauma? Yes. But I can understand why the author made the choices she did -- they serve the story and she isn't responsible for the fact that BSDM is presented as trauma-driven in way too many romances.It's remarkably good for a first novel. There are some pacing issues and what is meant to be a big reveal from Archer's past that intersects with Poppy's life kind of fizzles out. Overall, however, I was really impressed. Peckham is one to watch and I've already pre-ordered the next book in the series.

An absorbing story of two troubled people who overcome their flaws and figure out a way to give each other the things they need to be happy and fulfilled. The writing is exceptionally strong, as I'd expect from a Golden Heart-winning author, but the plot is also very well-constructed. Ms. Peckham's command of period details is also very good, so the book is free of annoying anachronisms.The ending reminded me a bit of Grease....

Poppy is determined to be the first gardener in England to form a transatlantic subscription service, but a few things stand in her way, all related to the fact that she’s a woman living in 18th century Britain. She wants to do it all on her own but that’s difficult when she has very little money and various men in her life threaten the business that she’s built from the ground up.Archer, the Duke of Westmead, and his sister Constance offer Poppy an exorbitant sum to deploy her botanical design talents at a party Constance is throwing.Our hero and heroine are immediately drawn to one another, despite the fact that neither is looking for a permanent relationship, or even a temporary, purely physical relationship. Archer is haunted by his past, and Poppy is trying to navigate a world where she’s the granddaughter of a viscount but also a gardener; a single woman trying to live her life and grow her business on her own terms but living in what’s very much a man’s world; a virgin who’s a bit bewildered by her own sexual impulses.When Poppy and Archer are caught in a compromising position, they marry, but their HEA is very much in question. Can Poppy be happy in a marriage when she’s fiercely independent and reluctant to be at the mercy of any man, even one as good as her husband? And can Archer trust Poppy enough to reveal his secrets?I adore so much about THE DUKE I TEMPTED. How independent Poppy is, and how skillfully and sensitively Peckham unveils Poppy’s wants and desires. How conflicted Archer is, and how his innate kindness makes him a character we never quite lose faith in. The beautifully realized world Peckham creates—how richly evoked and sensual it is.But, there was one issue I had with the plot.VAGUE SPOILER FOLLOWS.Like some of the other reviewers, I was disappointed and disturbed by one aspect of the plot which happened later in the book. Without giving away specific details, I’ll say that if the incident had to occur, I think that it needed to be addressed in a direct fashion by the characters, and it was not. It seemed to me that the character who committed the act got a pass, and while what happened didn’t have a huge negative effect on how I perceived the character or their relationship, it was largely because the character was stopped from committing something truly unforgivable (to me) in a relationship, rather than stopping on the character’s own volition. This aspect of what happened probably bothers me most of all.SPOILER OVER.Despite this aspect of the plot, this was a book that I really enjoyed and that I would definitely recommend. I can’t wait to see what Peckham writes next.

Obviously, this is not an anthropological treatise on Yemeni culture; rather a variant of 'the innocent abroad' approach. Mortimer seems to know very little about Arabic culture, including some curiously persistent misspellings of even very common words. But what the author lacks (or pretends to lack?) in terms of prior knowledge is amply compensated for by the tenderness and honesty of his writing and his deepening liking of Yemen, in combination with a subdued, but sustained critique of his own place in the world. Mortimer's lack of judgment is refreshing, particularly in combination with a sweet sense of wonder at the people, places and events Mortimer stumbles across. Part travelogue, part making-of, part social history, part self-discovery, this elegant book left this reader with warm feelings for its author and even warmer feelings for the Yemenis he encounters in one way or another. An enjoyable read about liminal people and places in and from a magnificent, complex, and usually overlooked corner of the Arabian peninsula.
