I was so pleased with the ROI that I subsequently purchased his book, Google SEO For Bloggers.I found Google SEO For Bloggers to be less fun reading but equally useable and comprehensive and, perhaps, even more valuable. Unless you are the type of person who enjoys statistical analysis, it can be pretty dry. Maybe that is why most bloggers don’t bother with optimizing their posts for Google to discover. However, the subject is extremely relevant and important for bloggers who are serious about it.Highly recommended.

I have blogged for several years, but I've never seriously dug into SEO training. I usually found the info either too sleazy or to technical. But Joseph really changed my view on the subject. I always appreciate someone who focuses on the fundamentals - the core skills and ideas of a topic. That's what I got reading this book. I've got some homework to do! I consider myself reasonably SEO-savvy, but admittedly it's something that I haven't prioritized in several years. Joseph's book gave me a ton of new ideas on how to earn incremental traffic from Google. Some of the ideas will be really fast and easy to implement, and others will take a little more time and effort. I found myself bookmarking pages throughout to revisit, and now I need to take a second pass and come up with an action plan. My only beef is I think the book could have been strengthened with some more concrete examples and case studies, either from Joseph's own blogs or others who've followed his methods.

How to review this book? I'm only a quarter of the way through and I love the engaging prose and the pacing of the story that Collins and LaPierre tell, but the Kindle version (purchased as of June 2017) is literally the worst I have ever purchased on Amazon and that is what brings me to this review. Nearly every single paragraph has a misspelling or punctuation error. If it were only one mistake per page I might be able to keep reading, but when it is almost every single paragraph it becomes so distracting as to become an actual hindrance to the book itself. You'll frequently come across a strange word and wonder if you're looking at some archaic English term, a transliteration from Hindi or Tamil, or yet another sloppy misspelling. It gets old. Real fast. I'm going to request a refund on the Kindle edition and will update this review once I receive a hard copy.

This is a wonderfully researched and written work. However the appalling number or wrong words generated in the digitization process do great injustice to the authors' hard work. I read many ebooks but have never come across so many "typos".

When it comes to writing about the Independence of India and the partitioning of the country that happened with it, it is hard to find a neutral source of information. Luckily 'Freedom at Midnight' is one such source. Unfortunately, with neutrality comes the perspective of someone outside looking in, which is also what happens in this book.That being said, this book is a MUST read for all fans of history and people interested in understanding Pakistan-India dynamics and the culture of the sub-continent. The one issue I have with the book is the glorification of the role that Mountbatten and Gandhi played in the aforementioned events. There is in some sense, a simplification of their actions and intent. The reality (at least as perceived by citizens of the two countries) is much more complicated. Gandhi's own auto-biography is more revealing, nuanced and provides a better insight into the thoughts (many naive or unsavory) of India's great leader.The final aspect, which should make this a fun read for everyone (including people who are not fans of history) is the colorful and detailed description of the (often futile and vain) life of Indian nobility. If you ever wondered what (unimaginably crazy) life the Indian princes enjoyed, make sure you read the book.

I read this book a decade or so ago, but it has been coming back to my mind recently -- apparently simply because it made such an impact and I now have a medium (Amazon) in which to express my appreciation of it. It is an impressive book in every way: an epic story, with gripping narrative, about extraordinary events and characters. I had had no conception of the monstrous tragedy of the partition of India from Pakistan. This book not only describes its true dimensions, but also makes clear how circumstances can force such absurd things to occur. Much of the book is a biography of Gandhi, and here I could only marvel at the power and authority of this man, and -- on top of everything else -- be riveted by the assassination story in all its detail that I had not known about. Whether there are more accurate accounts of these matters, I am not in a position to say. I can only report that I found this book completely satisfying in multiple respects: as history, as biography, as narrative. At least for a non-expert I can't imagine how it could disappoint as a book, however distressing (and, alas also, timely) its subject matter may be.

My comment is not regarding the book itself, which is magnificent as are all books that were written by that marveluos pair of journalists. It concerns rather the poor quality of the KINDLE edition. It is full of what in appearance are "typos", but I assume are errors that come up on converting to the Kindle format. Someone failed on the quality control of the Kindle edition.

While this isn’t my favorite Honor Harrington book, I really can’t think of any reason not to give it five stars, so that’s what I’m doing. In this book, Honor is still an admiral in the Grayson Navy, but Manticore comes crawling back to her, begging her to rejoin their navy as a mere captain to lead a four ship squadron of Q ships in the Silesian Confederacy area, where pirates are destroying merchant shipping and crews. It’s an ugly invitation, but she wants back in the Manticoran Navy so badly, she accepts. Crazy.Q ships are converted merchant freighters with no armaments to speak of, but in this case, with lots of weaponry. They are to act as targets for pirates and when they are attacked, to destroy the pirates. But obviously, they have to do so immediately, as they can’t sustain damage. Honor is gratified to learn that her captains and execs are of good quality and she knows some of them, but the crews are a combination of cast offs and new recruits fresh out of the academy. Not good.Klaus Hauptman figures in this book. He asks that she be chosen for this assignment because she’s a great combat commander AND if she gets killed, that’s great for him too, as he hates her. So when she saves his sorry butt late in the book, it’s pretty ironic.A nice piece of writing in this book has to do with Haven. In the past, the Havenites have always been evil, for the most part. In this book, we see some evil Havenites, but we see some good ones too. It makes for a more realistic and humane look at this group of people. One Havenite cruiser is in the same area as Honor’s ship and it’s going after pirates too, and the captain rescues some Manticorans, even though he knows he probably should have destroyed them.Speaking of pirates, there are some pretty evil ones in this book. Led by a maniac. With nukes. And of course, Honor outwits him. Couldn’t have it any other way. And also, the body count is high in this book. Honor’s crews always suffer high casualties. Makes ya wonder why so many people want to serve under her.One nice touch was a new kid fresh out of the academy. He shows some promise in Engineering and is promoted, but there’s a crew of about five nasty bullies, led by one utterly insane nutjob. He loves to hurt people. He wants to murder people. And he wants to desert the navy, knowing it’s an execution squad he would be facing if he were caught. Well, he catches this kid alone and beats the heck out of him. Someone spots them and runs him off, but neither of them will say anything other than the kid fell down. Right. Everybody knew who did it, but there’s no proof. Later, one of the kid’s friends, a female of the same rank, has her space suit (?) sabotaged, and nearly dies, but again there’s no proof. Meanwhile, this kid has been working out with the Marines on board the ship, learning how to fight. He goes and tracks down the bully. He goads him into taking a swing at him and then beats the heck out of him and it’s a pretty sweet scene to read. Honor gives the bully 90 days in the brig, followed by a court martial. She gives the kid one day of sitting in his room and docks him one week’s pay. He’s stunned. He thought he’d lose his stripes and maybe be court martialed himself. She knew what was going on. She approved. Nice.It was good to get Honor away from the religious nuts and politics of Grayson. That was starting to get old. But it was bad not seeing her in the captain’s chair of a dreadnaught. However, she worked wonders with those Q ships and it was a pretty good story, so five stars it is. Recommended.

Without going into the plot, I felt like HAE was a refreshing return to the origins of the series - a single ship and her captain against the world. Harrington finds herself assigned away from the rest of the RMN or even a proper warship squadron, yet undergunned and out numbered she still manages to bring her usual panache to the fleet.This book stood out to me because it took the time to look at the 'lesser' crew of the Wayfarer and the other vessels, and some of the problems which commonly face Enlistedmen (as one, I appreciate this rare look). This was an excellent and refreshing change of pace from the all-officers-all-the-time pacing of some other Sci Fi series.The pacing is excellent, with enough time spent on setup, technical explanation, intrigue and action - I did feel that she dealt with the first mini-boss a little too easily, but to have spent more time on the tin-pot dictator would have necessitated lenghtening the book longer than it needed to be. All in all an excellent entry into an excellent series.

Finally we find Honor Harrington back on track in the RMN (Royal Manticoran Navy), but the politics which had originally pushed her away, have manipulated her return to be a mission which could be the end of her. She's leading a quartet of Q-ships into the Solarian League to try and clean up some of the shipping lanes. The ships are over-gunned, but virtually armor-less.Things would be fine, for her ships would out-gun any pirates she might come across - but not any really military-grade ships. Like, say, for instance, the small group of ships the Peeps have sent into the shipping lanes to poach on the Manticoran traders. Yep,just as our hero has started to get settled on her new planet of Grayson (and being an admiral in their Navy!) she dives back into the thick of it with the RMN.This is a classic Harrington novel, at least in my opinion. You've a little bit of political intrigue woven in the midst of the more militaristically based narrative - enough political maneuvering to work against the heroine.Weber also manages to work in a few other characters and explore them pretty well. This novel, in the series, brings Honor back from being ostracized by the RMN, setting up the circumstances which spiral out of Harrington's control in the next novel (In Enemy Hands) and the climactic novel which follows that (Echos of Honor) - both of which are a high point of the entire series, in my mind.The pace is very solid not lagging too much in many places (though there are a few), and Weber definitely continues to show the depth of his vision for the 'Honorverse' and everything that develops and goes on there.I do highly recommend this novel to sci-fi and strategy fans alike. This is one which you could read relatively well without having read any of the others in the series, though you might miss out on a few of the character nuances and some more subtle developments.

I have read this series numerous times and just like the first time is still captivating and thrilling. David Weber did an excellent with this series, the characters and the plot. As many times as I've read them, close to thirty, they never get old and anyone who is looking for great story need go no further then Honor Harrington series. Definately a recommended read for any sci-fi lover

This was a good intro book, expanding on products and capabilities of home automation. I'm not sure why there were setup instructions for many of these products; it's pointless if you don't buy it and I would defer to the product manual anyway. There are two things I thought were missing. 1) Home Automation for the Disabled and 2) a complete lack of addressing the Amazon Echo. The latter has been available for years and adds voice capabilities to home automation. It's not new enough to have been missed in this book and voice automation is kind of a big key to addressing the former (disability automation).

I must admit that I was disappointed in this book, but it is my own fault really. I've been reading online for almost a year about Smart Homes, and listen to multiple podcast. I'm not sure why I thought a book "for Dummies" would offer me anything new. That being said, for a beginner it probably would be a great way to learn the terminology and technology of the Smart Home. But I'll warn you, ,the industry is moving so fast that some devices or concepts here may be on their way out before your read it. I would suggest that maybe listening to one of the many really good Home Automation or Smart Home podcast might give you a bit more insight into what is currently going on

Unfortunately, this is a topic that changes so quickly that the a paper book doesn't cut it. It has to be so general, it's of limited use.I'd appreciate a SmartThings for Dummies, Wink, Iris for Dummies.However, if it's 2015 and you're in the initial planning stages of your home automation system, this might be a good start.It's great they updated this title because I think the previous edition came out in 2006.

Good basic overview. For those who really want to get into diy home automation, you can get by with this intro book, but would benefit from more in depth information.

Good intro for BASICS but limited advanced or software info. Did have ideas I hadn't thought about. Like the embedded links to device info.

More of an overview than a guide to how actually implement and accomplish something with the many systems out there.
