So.... is it time for book three yet?!? sigh... this is part of why i hate reading books in a series that isn't quite completed. 1) the wait sucks and 2) i tend to be pretty freakin forgetful so end up forgetting half of the series i want to finish even if they are stupendous!!! Especially if I happened to read the on KU because they aren't in my library to go back through and be like "hey look!! An awesome series that I didn't finish... let's go see if new books are out!!"Anyways, on to the book. LOVED!!! If you couldn't tell from my impassioned ramblings lol. We get to know all the characters a little bit more and the mystery is now solved!!!! Well... sort of (= New, MAJOR, pieces of the puzzle are revealed and more of the world explained in a way that doesn't feel like an info dump. This author is talented!!!
If you're like me, you're looking In the reviews to find out if they finally have sex. I'm happy to tell you, they do! I was so disappointed in the first book, when it ended without them getting together. I figured a reverse harem book would have sexual scenes. The story did draw me in, but I wasn't going to buy the second book if they weren't going to be together. Thankfully, another reviewer answered the question in my mind. So, if you're on the fence, I'm here to tell you to buy the book!
OK so I typically do not buy a book for it's cover but that is exactly how this series caught my attention. I absolutely love the cover for this book and brought me to the first book which also has an amazing cover.Totally not telling of the contents but yet so telling. I was not one of those that figured it out until it was revealed but that made the book that much better for me. I have to admit that the book was difficult to keep up with at times. There were several times that I had to re-read parts of the book trying to understand them better but it was all good, it was worth it. Everything added up so well in the end that I literally had an 'AHA' moment. I actually had several throughout the book. I cannot begin to tell you how much I enjoyed reading this book. I have to admit I had to take a break in the middle of this one and I read another book of another genre just to reset my brain but when I got back to it my mind was raring to go.Paca is so different from everyone else. I have to tell you that the humor in this book is incredible. Paca is hilarious. I love this character and how Ms Cunning wrote her character. She was witty, funny, sarcastic, and fearless. We find out why she was fearless but you need to read the book to know but it is so totally worth it!!Highly recommended sitting at the edge of my seat waiting for 'Two Kingdoms'.
Sometimes it can be scary reading the second book in a series when you loved the first one so much. So let me put your fears to rest and say that Three Trials is just as good as Four Psychos. Three Trials picks up right where Four Psychos left off, so if you start reading right after you finish the first book it almost feels like the same novel. The second book has a lot more action than the first, and we finally get some answers about what Keyla is and how she came to be connected to the guys. It was easy to tell what the guys were from the first book, but the big reveal on Keyla honestly threw me for a loop. But in a seriously awesome way.Kristy Cunning did as fantastic a job with the character and relationship development as she did with the first book. It’s still incredibly realistic as far as reverse harem novels go, and we really get to see all the guys in varying stages of their relationship with Keyla. Again, often in reverse harems you don’t get to see real relationship development, and too often there’s one incidence of instalove and one of instahate, and without any kind of transition or progression the characters would all die for each other and can’t stand to be apart. Definitely not the case in these books. And if you really need another reason to love this book as much as the first, we finally get a bit of gratification in the way physical interaction. Hallelujah because I was dying with and for Keyla. It’s hard to balance alone time with that many male leads running around, but I think it was done quite nicely here.I feel like I keep mentioning balance in reverse harem reviews, but it’s seriously so hard to achieve with so many characters. Kristy Cunning has found that balance though, and I am so glad because she paired it so well with such a fantastic plotline. I know she’s got a second reverse harem series coming out this December, and I am counting down the days!
Three Trials by Kristy CunningThis is the second book of The Dark Side series by Kristy Cunning where we spend about half the book FINALLY getting some answers! Unlike how Chris Carter of the X-Files never got around to finally explaining what was going on, we now are privy to who Keyla and her four super-sexy killer psychos truly are. No, I won’t tell you because that would spoil everything! I am surprised how Cunning managed to do so without making it all look to be boring exposition stuff. But we still must keep in mind that you can never trust anyone whom is not bonded to you. Never.Cunning’s writing, despite this huge revelation, is still quite out-of-the-box, and I was not disappointed in this book at all. Everything was ratcheted up to a high level, and I still couldn’t put it down. I read the entire thing in a handful of hours, not coming up for air for meals, but that’s fine. My brain loved it!I think the ferreting for the usual writing errors was improved as I didn’t see as much, but it is hardly perfect. Again, the subject material really distracted me from what would have been very distracting to my sense of suspending disbelief. I am still blown away by Cunning’s creativity. I just can’t wait to read Book 3!
