How do you transition between scenes when you don't know what else to do? Have the MC pass out. How do you keep tension in the story? Have the MC pass out and forget anything she just learned or saw. How do you keep suspense? Have EVERYONE from her mother, potential lovers, family, friends, enemies, and random old ladies from the nursing home hint or flat out say they know something important to the MC, but refuse to tell her for "reasons".As frustrating as it seems, given the MC's inability to make good decisions, follow basic instructions, not needless put herself at more risk when her life is already in danger, and blurt out things at inappropriate times, it does sort of work with the plot. At one point in time the author even points out that men have to keep branches from hitting the MC in the face while their lives are in dangers because the MC got a bug bite on her hand and is too busy looking at that to focus on what is going on around her.Nothing about this story seems to flow smoothly, or make you impressed with the MC's decisions. Any hint or hope of her standing up for herself is immediately followed by her adopting a personality with such immature decision making that it is uncomfortable. In the first book it is established that the MC is an adult, but she is written as if she has the mind of a teenager.
The first two books have been excellent! This is definitely a slower burn romance, but the kind you don't mind because the mysteries going on make it still a great story. It feels natural in its progression and the sexual tension between them all is actually kind of enjoyable. I am really looking forward to the third installment.
This series is just getting better and better. I loved the first book but this one was even better as we find out more answers and the relationships move forward. Plus once again we have plenty of intrigue and action spread throughout the relationship building and character growth. Seriously what's not to love?
This book was a surprise! Way more to it then expected. And way better. The depth and world building is phenomenal! Intrigue, murder, gore, spies, romance, fighting...with swords and guns. A lot of great stuff packed between the digital covers of these books!
This would have gotten more than 3 stars but this RH series is very slow moving. The secrets just keep piling up one after the other. The heroine isn't one I expected. She just seems weak and always getting into trouble, never listens and isn't able to protect herself. Now the males are pretty on cue with their roles.I'm hoping the next installment will pick up pace. I'm not into instant love and frisky scenes either but neither do I enjoy a series that states it's one thing but takes forever to actually get there. This first book hardly touched on the RH theme. It was more of a history and character building. I would like to see more interaction between the MC and more feelings instead of the totally slow build up and sentences here and there of how much they all want her and how she wants them. There's just not much development with the characters feelings for each other. There's also some editing needed with missing words, misused words, and spelling errors.
The story reminds me of LOR all the different characters, north and south, good and evil, machinations of the past and ancient history of vampire v.s. wolf. It could be interesting to know the wolf side of things in future stories. And if there are fonts in East and West and what they could make. But continuing with MacS story first, i would cry if it diverted, now. Perhaps keeping it open to avoid annihilation of one side or another...and perhaps hybrids to avoid enmity. Look fwd to more. But gd make a move soon, im begging here ;)
I'm really enjoying this series. The world building is really impressive. The characters are developed well. I love how fearless Mac is. My only complaint is, is went too fast lol. I cannot wait for the next release.
