These are great books for individuals who can read music and play the a musical instrument My father has been looking for bluegrass music book that he would be able to play and maybe even learn a few new songs as he plays his guitar for the elderly care centers in his town. We were looking all over for a book that was the perfect where he could read it and still be able to play. he is self taught and older so he is so set in his ways so this was quite the challenge. I am happy to say he loves the book. I am sure i will end up getting a few more for him.
Though the book had good selection and I appreciate the layout for the most part, the exception I take is only the first verse of each song have the music and chords.
I am so impressed with this book. It is more than just a book of cords, although it is that for sure. It has pictures, history, and tips. There are pages of tips of different kinds, some examples are: how that play blue grass, how to harmonize, music theory.
This book is defintely more versatile and helpful than either Hal Leonard's GOSPEL HYMNS or Mel Bey's book of 100 THREE CHORD GOSPEL HYMNS AND SONGS. Unlike the former, Erbsen's book gives the complete melody line; and unlike the latter, the songs are in a variety of easy keys with the guitar chord plainly given above the music. Very highly recommended.
This book has really helped me to know what tempo the song is written in....I know a little about music and not much about the guitar playing. I am learning and this helps so I know the beat and tempo of the song. It also has a lot of history. I enjoyed reading the stories about the writers and songs. Thanks
